Itinerary

  • Day 1: Reach Haridwar and rest.
  • Day 2: Proceed for Joshimath early in morning with night stay at Joshimath. (Travel time is approx 10 hours depending on the breaks you take in between). No need to book the hotels in Auli for this day because one reaches Joshimath only by late evening and it is better to book an inexpensive stay here for just crashing for the night.
  • Day 3: Check-in your hotel in Auli and take the chair lift and enjoy the heavenly valley view on top. Chair lift operates from 9 am in the morning to 5:30 in the evening. So if you want to explore the valley more, the go in the morning as early as possible and spend your day exploring the valley and come back by evening.                                                               OR                                                                                               Incase you do not get a hotel in Auli, then you may keep your room in Joshimath itself, and take a cable car ride all the way upto Auli, enjoy your day there and come back by evening to Joshimath.
  • Day 4:  Checkout from the hotel after breakfast and proceed back to Haridwar or wherever else you have planned.

Journey

Day 1: Bhilwara (Rajasthan) to Haridwar (737kms- 12 to 14 hours depending on traffic and no. of breaks in between)

Our road trippin started from Bhilwara and we ended our Day 1 in Haridwar. We were 6 of us in an Innova. We reached Haridwar around 12:30 at night and slept as soon as we reached!

Day 2 & 3: Haridwar to Chopta and Chandrashila trek (Approx 230 kms – 9 hours with stops in between)

You may read about this part of journey here

We reached Joshimath by 5:30 pm in the evening.  Joshimath is a religious hub for devotees going to Auli/Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, Valley of flowers, etc. Many tourists come here, especially in summers when Char Dham Yatra and other religious places are accessible.

There are many budget basic accommodations available in Joshimath. They start as low as INR 200 per person. But don’t expect anything good in them! All the good ones were mostly sold out or way too expensive. But luckily we spotted one newly constructed hotel with good facilities and view. Sadly it is not available online!

Anyway we had our dinner in the market and slept early as we were so very tired due to our Chandrashila trek.

Day 4: Joshimath to Auli resort by car(16 kms). Auli meadows through Chair lift.

Today we got up late, had breakfast and checked in Auli resort at 12pm! Didn’t want to miss even a second of the stay in this amazing resort! It is situation on a hill near GMNV guest house. Car goes uptill this resort.  We were the first ones to reach there that day! 😀 The caretakers actually asked us that how did we reach Auli from Haridwar in the morning itself! 😀

This resort is a beautiful property. There are yellow huts as bright as sunshine!! 🙂 🙂 Each hut is a room. One can see snow clad peaks from the huts. The view is just lovely 🙂 The room is quite small thought, can only fit two, but other than that everything good. DSC_0737DSC_0757DSC_0828

Next we had lunch and left for visiting the valley through chair lift. When we went up there, we realized that we should have come in the morning here for exploring more parts of the valley. DSC_0861

Anyway, we hired an ATV ride for taking us to the point where cable car has its last stop. That guy took total INR 1000 per ride(round trip- for total 3 persons). The owner did let us test ride it 😉 One can also chose to walk uptill here. We had less time and we were really tired due to Chandrashila trek, so none of us wanted to walk much! DSC_0903

Next we hired horses from here to take us into the valley uptill 2.5 kms (INR 500 per person for round trip) Again, mostly people walk uptill here but we did not want to due to less time. Later that horse owner told us that if we had come early in the morning, then he could have taken us further deeper into the valley as far as 10-12 kms, with a stunning view of greenery and peaks all around. Also they provide tent stay with food for those who want to sleep in the vast valley 🙂 But yes, prior intimation is required. DSC_0050.JPG

Auli is all about colourful flowers, lush green meadows, snow clad peaks in summers 🙂 Here are few of the pics of the stunning views we came across.DSC_0905DSC_0970DSC_0033

The owner of these two horses even plucked yummilicious strawberries for us in the way 🙂

Once we reached back, the ATV guy gave us a ride back till the Man made lake. DSC_0412.JPG

And then from here, we climbed back uptill the chair lift stop, had maggie there and came back to Auli resort by 5:30 pm(in the last chair lift ride for this day). DSC_0430

Since not many tourists had reached the resort yet, we volumed up our speakers and danced 😀

Lastly, had dinner at night and slept.

Day 5: Auli to Haridwar (Almost 290 kms), with a stop in Rishikesh for Bungeeeee jumping!!!

Our initial plan was to leave Auli resort at checkout time. But due to some medical emergency, we left Auli at 5:15 am.

We were able to reach Rishikesh by 2:30 pm, so were allowed to do bungee jump. Bungee Jump pre-booking is  a must. Our was booked for two days later but we preponed it to the same day by requesting the manager.  Some of us did Bungee and some did swing. Will write about the details in another article.

Although you may check the video here. I was so scared!

Then we left for Haridwar, went for Ganga Arti, had pizza after so many days! And called it a day!

Day 6: Haridwar to Bhilwara

We left around 6 am from Haridwar and reached Bhilwara by night with several stops in between.

So, this was all about our Auli trip with happy and thrilling memories! 🙂
